I don't know about you but when I was a teenager, any outfit I was going to wear to a significant event (a trip to the mall, a day at school, a Civinettes pancake breakfast) had to have a stamp of approval from at least two of the women in my family. The women in my family were my mom and my three sisters.
Then when I was 17 I moved to Germany for a year as an exchange student. I got dressed for the first day of school and modeled my outfit for my host family. Their reaction was a mixture of confusion and disapproval. You see it turns out I had landed in a place where academics were actually the reason people went to school. Not fashion!
(I had this one classmate in Germany who wore the same sweater every single day of the week. He just changed the shirt underneath the sweater. And that was okay!)
(With everyone else. Not really with me.)
Over the years life has taken me further and further away from the women in my family and today I am half a world away from them. But this morning my baby sister Amanda sent me a website that can bring them back into my circle of wardrobe consultants.
It's called http://wearthisorthat.com and it's exactly what it sounds like.
People post pictures of themselves in a couple of outfits and you vote on which looks better.
If you go there please be on the lookout for said baby sister Amanda, who is asking for feedback on her wedding dress.
Please do not adjust your screen, one of the dresses is indeed orange.

That website is really cool - especially if you have a major even to dress for coming up.
Personally, I love the first dress on your sister. I think the orange is sooo cool, it flatters her figure and she's so lucky to have the skintone to be able to wear it. I'd look sick in it! lol
When I was in college (aka high school) in the UK, how important your outfit was depended on what group you fit in with. Mostly, though wearing the same sweater for a week was totally ok. It's funny how you were shocked by that in Germany.
I'm so glad you enjoy the new site. I spent the better part of last summer planning it. I hope everyone finds it useful and fun! Thanks for helping spread the word to others and please be sure to visit often! Cheers!
Sarah I agree with you about Amanda's skin tone. Orange is a hard color to pull off!
Jeff, thanks for stopping by! I do love your site. I'm planning to post some pictures of myself soon and see how the voting goes.
wow, both dresses look great but that orange dress is smokin on her! i would say, this is the one time you might wear a wedding dress so you might as well do it, but i don't know now... the orange dress is her dress!
I'll be sure to post wedding pictures of Amanda in her dress. My money is on orange.
My first thought is that we all need to go to TCBY and get some frozen yogurt and discuss it. I am buying since I still have 2-for-1 coupons that they forgot to put expiration dates on back in the late 80s! But, I regress...
My second thought is I am old. That is Amanda?!!!? Oh my gosh! She looks perfect in both dresses!
My advice on a wedding dress?
***WARNING: This is coming from a guy that has just figured out that vertical and horizontal stripes do NOT go together! I swear I did not get that memo!***
I am all for tradition when it comes to weddings and the white one is extremely nice. The orange one looks perfect on Amanda but reminds me a bit of a bridesmaid dress. I also may be tainted by flashbacks of sitting in the Tennessee section at a Tennessee-Alabama football game and hearing "Rocky Top" a billion times.
